Creating art is a meditative experience for me, the joy is in creation and getting lost in it.
The Early Days
Drawing has always been something that I enjoy. I remember doodling cats and animals extensively as a small child. My mother let me to go to the craft store and get whatever I needed. I got paints, paintbrushes, yarn.
Sometimes I mixed mediums and would paint with watercolor, acrylic paint and black pen. Often I paint to release creative energy. I lose track of time completely because I am so focused on what I am doing.
In terms of mediums watercolor and acrylic were my favorites for many years. I took a watercolor class in high school and loved it. Later I took watercolor classes in community college. My floor in my room was covered in watercolor paintings. I would work on many paintings at once. I displayed my art in cafes and at Barnes and Nobles a popular book store.
Modern Painting
Lastly, I started painting digitally in 2020. I use a free program call Krita. It took me many months to understand the program and get it to do what I wanted to. I find it quite liberating because its so easy to fix mistakes. Also it has so many different kinds of brushes. In the “real” world lets say I have 20 brushes. But in the digital world, there are hundreds all housed in the program. Also there are blender brushes, stamps and erasers.
I can create custom brushes! It does have some drawbacks though, I work full time on the computer, so doing something digital and not physical is hard on your eyes. Sometimes, it’s tiring staring at a screen.
The wonderful thing is a high quality digital designs is flexibility. They are on a variety of products. If you need a piece of art for the house you have the option. But what if you would like a scarf with the art print? That’s available as well.
